Financial Literacy Lessons in Schools

In the 2024–2025 academic year, 663 students from primary and secondary schools in Haverhill have already benefited from learning essential, life-changing financial skills. Delivered alongside our financial literacy programme with Highpoint prison, this pioneering programme gives young people unparalleled preparation for their financial futures.

Our highly skilled Money Mentor, Lizzie, delivers sessions with an honest and enthusiastic approach that instantly connects with students. She brings money management and budgeting to life in ways that are age-appropriate, fun, and memorable. These lessons provide the critical financial education many parents never received, empowering students to make smarter and more sustainable money choices as they grow into adulthood.

In just one hour, Lizzie turns the classroom into an interactive, energised space where up to 30 students tackle challenges such as the shopping trolley task; an activity that opens their eyes to the real cost of living and the everyday challenges of budgeting.

Students benefit not just once, but throughout their school journey — in Years 1, 6, and 10 — meaning their financial confidence grows year after year, building on a strong foundation of knowledge. With Lizzie’s expert guidance and enthusiastic delivery, students are encouraged to ask questions, explore ideas, and leave each session more confident in their financial future.

And this isn’t just for schools. Our financial sessions also reach other youth organisations such as Cadets and Girl Guides, spreading the benefits of exceptional financial literacy far and wide.

Feedback

The feedback from schools has been nothing short of glowing:

“It was a really good session […]. You interacted in a friendly and positive way with the children, welcoming and responding to their contributions [..]. The resources […] gave an interactive way for the children to engage with some important content around budgeting. Thanks so much!”

“Thank you so much […] the children really enjoyed learning about budgeting and how to budget for a weekly shop. They didn't realise the cost of all the needs items such as toilet roll and washing up liquid and I think this opened their minds up about how much items cost in the real world.”

“[..] money management and financial literacy is such an important and under-discussed topic with this age group of children. You presented tricky concepts […] in a child-friendly and clear way. [..] We would love to have you back!”

“[..] thank you very much […] for sharing your valuable and interesting presentation on Budgeting and Debt issues. […] the children gained a great deal from the discussions and activities and now have a raised awareness of these factors in their lives, moving forward.”

“The session was fantastic. I thought the discussion about house-hold costs was very eye-opening for them and was something that I wish I had learnt when I was their age.”

“Our children really enjoyed the sessions and the varied activities helped keep them engaged. It was a really well presented session and very relevant to the current learning in PSHE […]. Their financial vocabulary and understanding broadened through discussions over concepts such as rent and mortgages.”

“The shopping trolley activity really showed the children the real cost of some items and made them think carefully about how they would spend their allocated budget. […]”

Why schools should get involved

This isn’t just another classroom activity; it’s a transformative experience that equips students with skills they will use for the rest of their lives. Schools that participate are giving their students a head start in financial literacy and investing in a generation that will be better prepared, more independent, and financially resilient.

By booking these sessions, schools can be confident they are offering their students the very best in practical, impactful education; lessons that are not only remembered but truly shape their future choices.
